AfroFem Unity Club Workshop on “Empowering Leaders: Building Skills for Africa’s Development”

On Friday, 21 June 2024, the AfroFem Unity Club hosted a successful half-day workshop at AGEFADD’s House in Brussels HQ, centred on the theme “Empowering Leaders: Building Skills for Africa’s Development.” The event aimed to empower participants with practical leadership skills, inspire through engaging speakers and activities, and foster community through shared cultural experiences. It attracted diverse attendees, including African and European women and diaspora, emerging leaders, professional women, social entrepreneurs, community advocates, men and allies passionate about Africa’s development and women’s empowerment.

This event began with welcoming remarks from Dr. Monica Emmanuel, the Africa Global Experts Forum and Diplomatic Dialogue (AGEFADD) Project Manager and AfroFem Unity Club President. Professor Chukwuemeka Oteh, AGEFADD’s Nigeria/Africa Coordinator, delivered a keynote speech titled “Leadership for Africa’s Future.” His speech provided valuable insights into the importance of leadership skills for Africa’s development.

Mrs. Ribka Williams and Mrs. Angela Eriba facilitated the first workshop module, “Visionary Leadership.” It focused on developing a visionary mindset and examined case studies of global and African leaders. Participants enjoyed a buffet dinner, which provided an informal setting for discussions and networking.

Dr. Grace Openy led the second workshop module, “Strategic Planning and Execution,” where participants discussed the engagement and creation of a strategic plan for community development projects. A panel discussion on “Building and Leading Effective Teams” featured Prof. Oteh, Mrs. Williams, Dr. Openy, and Mrs. Eriba, who discussed team dynamics and practical leadership skills.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Monica Emmanuel and an inspirational message from Prof. Oteh, followed by late night dinner, light music, and a vibrant networking and cultural celebration.

The AfroFem Unity Club’s workshop successfully balanced professional development with social engagement, making it both educational and enjoyable. The event provided valuable leadership training and strengthened the community spirit among participants.
